As you know we took a break from TABCON on the West Coast in 2008 and decided to extend our message of high-tech entrepreneurship and business opportunities between the U.S. and Turkey to the east coast. On April 13, 2008 TABC hosted the closing panel on Managing and Financing Innovation in TASSA conference, at Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA. President of TABC, Efe T. Orhun moderated the panel the panelists on this panel were Oltac Unsal, Managing Director of Smyrna Capital and Co-founding member of TABC and Oya Uysal project manager, Mersin Chamber of Commerce and Industrialists Association and Halil Kulluk, CEO, Intekno, Inc.

TABC hosted “Evidence of Turkish ICT Entrepreneurship” at the ATC-AFOT/TAIK-DEIK 27th Annual Conference on U.S.-Turkish Relations on April 15, 2008. The panel was moderated by Özer Dondurmacioglu, Member of the Board, TABC. The panel featured Mr. Ali Kutay CEO of Golden Gate Systems, who shared his entrepreneurial experience in the Silicon Valley, Dr. Faruk Yarman, General Manager, Havelsan Inc, who presented on the developments in Turkish high-tech sector and the underlying financial infrastructure and last last but not least Mr. Aydin Onur, Secretary General of TABC presented on TABC Consulting’s Asymmetric Investment Services from Turkey to the U.S. vs. Silicon Valley to Turkey. Mr. Onur asserted that it was very difficult to attract Silicon Valley investors to take an interest in Turkey while there has been a respectable amount of activity for Turkish Investors considering expanding their businesses into USA. He offered some potential explanations for this asymmetry and invited the audience to come up with their proposed reasons.

Ahmet Akkas and Hasan Eskici related to their experience of taking DevBiz from an idea in Izmir to being acquired by Microsoft in Redmond.
